My friends around me often worry about their children's holidays. On the one hand, they want to take them on trips to create wonderful childhood memories with their parents, and on the other hand, it's also a good thing to learn from the trips. Recently I went to Taiwan again, but this time it was more special, with a small trip to a Taiwanese farm as the theme. I found a "Toucheng Leisure Farm" in Yilan, which is really suitable for them, and those who like to experience the nature of rural life will also find it fun!
Promoting Food Conservation and Environmental Protection
The owner, Mrs Cheuk, built this 100-hectare farm 40 years ago to fulfil her childhood dream of living in the countryside. During our visit to the farm, we bumped into her full of vitality and couldn't believe that she was 80 years old this year! She hoped that children and people from the city like us would go back to nature, and through various experiences we would learn about the difficulties of farming, and thus learn to cherish food and the importance of protecting the environment, which several school groups came to learn and experience that day. The rooms we stayed in were simple and comfortable, and the leftovers from our daily meals were disposed of separately and recycled, so the whole operation of the farm is filled with the concept of environmental protection.
Yilan Rural Specialities
The meals at One Park Three Foods are served in a buffet style, with Taiwanese specialities cooked with ingredients from their own farm. Apart from the "Handmade Fish Ball Wonton Soup", "Sweet Potato Congee" and "Eggs with Preserved Vegetables" that you can't miss, the "Roasted Chicken Wine" is definitely the one that has to be mentioned! The chicken is so smooth, and when you take a sip of the broth, the wine goes straight to your head. It turns out that Cheuk's mum loves to drink wine, so this dish is made with high beams, rice wine, and a little bit of sesame oil, and the main point is that you can't add a little bit of water, which is exactly how Cheuk's mum likes it! Desserts include Yilan dumplings, cold green bean soup to cool down the summer heat, and freshly ground soya bean milk that you can sweeten yourself, which is very thoughtful.
The Green Eco-Kitchen
This is a new project opened last year, and it was especially popular with the ladies, as the tall and stylish Swiss chef introduced us to the seasonal organic fresh ingredients from the farm, herbs and some very special flavourful fresh edible flowers, and then showed us how to cook different delicious dishes, which made all the ladies in the room go "wow" with excitement! While the chef was cooking, another beautiful teacher taught us how to make a decoration made from recycled glass bottles.
The Rural Experience
The most enjoyable part of the experience for the children should be the stone mill pushing experience. Watching them push and push and push, with constant laughter, they had a great time. The rice syrup that flows down from the stone mill is used to make Taiwanese snacks such as "Mi Taome" and "Dingbiancuo".
We also visited the Organic Vegetable Garden, where many fruits, vegetables and herbs are grown. I picked a thick cucumber and ate it, it was really fresh and crispy! Next to the garden, there is also an insect hotel for the solitary bees to raise their offspring, and they also catch pests for the garden. I don't know whether they are well nourished or not, but all the bees are as big as two fingers!
In the Rice Experience Zone, both adults and children can experience the hard work of rice planting. Even if you don't fall into the field, you can still take photos and enjoy the tranquility of nature.
Brewery
As I've mentioned before, Cheuk's mum loves to drink, so I wasn't surprised to hear that there was a winery here. After a tour of the winery, we sampled some of the best wines, including the fruity "jujube wine" and "red yeast wine", which were the best sellers, as well as the "five shells wine" and red wine, among others. The bread made from the lees of the jujube liquor was so fluffy and fruity that I ate a lot of it, even though I was on a diet. At the end of the meal, there was also plum jam and various flavours of fruit vinegar to try.
The winery is located in a beautiful setting with a large stream running through it, the water is sweet and the wine is of high quality and not too expensive, so my friends and I bought some of the wine and took it home. If you don't drink, you can take a walk and swing in the small courtyard outside.
Other Activities
Other impressive activities included the DIY lantern activity, where a few friends wrote blessings on their own lanterns and sent them to heaven.
In fact, there are many other experience activities, such as Yitoa T-shirt, fishing, bamboo rafting, goat feeding, DIY kiln baked PIZZA, BBQ, watching fireflies, etc., which can be played from day to night, so I think we should stay at least two or three nights to be able to get enough of it! I'm looking forward to bringing my family here next time.
