Yilan Gourmet Travel. Taiwan] Dazao Chicken - Jiaoxi's Famous Ungoya Chicken and Wicked Chicken Oil with Rice

Yilan is a large city with three towns and eight villages, so how can there be only one or two famous gourmet products? I have eaten "three-starred spring onion", "white roman goose", "cherry duck", and so on. This time, when we came to Jiaoxi, our friend with the ground guts took us to Jiaoxi Road to eat another kind of famous product. We could already smell the aroma of roasted chicken from afar, and it turned out that there were several specialised shops on both sides of the road, which seemed to be very competitive for buying 甕窯雞. However, once we looked at the sea of people at "Big Stove Chicken", we knew that this was the place where we would dine tonight.

Because the urn kiln chickens are all freshly made, there is an ancient brick kiln full of rustic flavour built in front of the restaurant, and a pile of longan wood used for roasting chickens is also placed next to it.

The main attraction was of course the long awaited "Roasted Chicken on Big Stove". We were all surprised by the huge size and appearance of the chicken, and the evenly roasted caramel colour and smoky flavour of the chicken made us salivate even before we ate it. I put on my restaurant gloves and tore the chicken apart in the most primitive way.

Because it is a local chicken, good mountain and water, naturally nurtured, of course, it is particularly sweet and tender, and the meat is firm and elastic, plus the wood-fired meals are always particularly tasty, the skin of the chicken is roasted to be very crispy and not greasy, with a little bit of dragon's-eye wood aroma.

In addition to the roasted chicken, the most noteworthy by-product is the chicken oil roasted over a wood fire. In the restaurant, the rice is free to eat (only for take-away), and the shopkeeper will bring you a bowl of chicken oil, pour it over the hot rice and mix it well, and you have an irresistible bowl of "Bibimbap with Chicken Oil". Each grain of rice was covered with the unique smoky aroma of the oil, which made me consume several bowls of rice without even thinking about it! I was so happy to eat some chicken with chicken oil on it. It's true that "the more evil something is, the better it tastes" has always been a true saying among gourmets.

After all the fatty chicken and chicken fat, you need to balance it out with some veggies too. Let's take a look at the must-have dishes, "Stir-fried Leek with Three Star Onion", "Hot Spring Cabbage" and "Scrambled Egg with Leek". Don't think that the supporting cast is inferior, all the vegetables here are local specialities, so they are particularly fresh and tasty, sweet and tender, but also stir-fried with enough fire throat. The crispy fried eggs are perfect for a drink.

The restaurant is semi-buffet style, after ordering the food, you can freely add more food, take cutlery, etc., just like a large group of friends and relatives to eat together, the atmosphere is good. There is also a chicken-shaped decoration hanging from the ceiling to show the table number, which is very interesting. There is a car park next to the restaurant, so you don't have to worry about driving to the restaurant. Unfortunately, they don't accept reservations, so if you want to eat, you have to come early.
