Yilan Gourmet Travel. Taiwan] Candied Tangerines from the Home of Kumquats

 

Yilan is the hometown of kumquats, so on this trip, we visited the "Tangerine Township" tourist factory on the outskirts of Yilan with our travelling companions to see how these precious natural resources are turned into different Yilan specialties.

To show its absolute confidence in its products, the factory has designed this glass gallery tour to introduce the entire process of making preserves, which is hygienic, safe and free of any additives.

After seeing the candied fruits made by others, I wanted to make one myself, so I joined the DIY activity of kumquat candied fruits. After half an hour of making the candied kumquats, I finished a bottle of candied kumquats with a beautiful packaging for only TWD150.

There's also a seasonal (kumquat December-March, mango May-August) jam DIY experience, where you can take home three jars of your own jam in just one hour!

Feeling a bit tired after a busy day, I went to a glass greenhouse filled with potted plants. It turned out to be a beautifully decorated cafe. I didn't want to drink coffee, so I ordered a cup of cold, thirst-quenching tangerine tea and a delicious smoked duck pie.

Finally, it was time for shopping. We walked to the Image Gallery, where we bought all kinds of jujube, nuts and other Yilan products, preserves and biscuits, such as jujube tea, jujube candies, tangerine crisps, and so on, to try them out and buy them as souvenirs at home. The kumquat preserves are so refreshing and thirst-quenching that you can't stop eating them!

Fruit ice lollies, created to improve the lives of Taiwan's fruit farmers, are also available for sale here.
