On this trip to Japan, I decided to spend a few extra days in the most convenient area around Tokyo Station, and chose to stay at the equally convenient ‘Hotel Metropolitan Marunouchi’, part of the JR East Group. The Hotel Metropolitan Marunouchi is situated within the ToKyo Station City Sapia Tower commercial complex, occupying the 27th to 34th floors. Benefiting from its proximity to the station, it offers excellent access to dining and shopping opportunities.
The Hotel Metropolitan Marunouchi is situated right next to Tokyo Station, just a one-minute walk from the Nihonbashi Exit and a two-minute walk from the Yaesu North Exit. With such a convenient location, the room rates are naturally not exactly cheap, but a quick check on Agoda shows prices starting from just 1,600 yen per night. Compared to other five-star hotels, this is actually quite a reasonable price – after all, time is money, isn’t it!?
Guests staying at the Tokyo Marunouchi City Hotel who have booked this service are also entitled to this complimentary luggage porter service. Guests taking the one-hour Limousine Bus from Haneda Airport to the Yaesu North Exit of Tokyo Station will have their luggage carried by hotel staff to the check-in floor upon alighting, where it will be returned to them. Although it is a small gesture, it is a thoughtful one.
The check-in desk is located on the 27th floor of the building, which is the first floor of the hotel section, so you will need to take the hotel’s dedicated lift from the ground floor to check in. Upon arriving in the lobby, you will find the hotel’s stylish and impressive atrium.
In the centre of the atrium stands a model of the area around Tokyo Station, where you can watch model trains and Shinkansen trains running along the tracks. The model also features meticulously crafted replicas of major landmarks, such as Tokyo Station, Tokyo Tower, Tokyo Skytree and Rainbow Bridge, amongst others.
Once you have completed check-in, you will need to take another lift to your floor. For security reasons, you must swipe your room key card to access this lift.
As the door opened, my first impression was of the minimalist, stylish design; the bedding, carpet and furniture all spoke of good taste. But as I looked down, I was immediately captivated by the view from the window. The position of the glass window and the desk is reminiscent of being suspended above Tokyo Station, with JR trains passing by without stopping – a truly breathtaking sight. I’m sure the view at night would be even more enchanting.
The room is reasonably spacious and practical, much larger than many business hotels. The Marunouchi Metropolitan Hotel offers seven different room types; this time I stayed in the 18m² Double Bed Standard Room. Even after unpacking my suitcase and making the bed, there was still more than enough space. By the way, I found the mattress extremely comfortable; a friend told me it’s a Simmons brand, though I didn’t check.
Given its location right next to Tokyo Station, the rooms aren’t particularly large. The main room categories are as follows:

- Queen-size bed, 20 square metres
- King-size bed, 25 square metres
- King Corner Room with King-size Bed – 22 square metres
- Standard Twin Room (25 square metres)
- Deluxe Twin Room (25 square metres)
- Executive Twin – Corner Room 30 square metres
The room is, of course, equipped with all the essentials: individually controlled air conditioning, a kettle, crockery, a small fridge, a safe and more—even an air purifier. And for someone like me who’s always online, the Wi-Fi password is naturally the first thing I look for; the thoughtful staff had already left it on the table for me.
The bathroom isn’t small either, and it’s fully equipped with standard-sized fixtures. The bath is big enough for me to sit down and enjoy a nice bubble bath, which is a real treat—though it’s not big enough for two people to bathe together. Haha~
The bathroom is equipped with all the essentials, including a hairdryer and basic toiletries; they even provide skincare products and mouthwash, so you really don’t need to bring any toiletries of your own if you’re staying here for a few days.
If you’re looking for a hotel that’s easily accessible, saves you time and offers a central location for shopping, I’d recommend the Marunouchi City Hotel at Tokyo Station—it’s a great base for getting around. Even if you don’t plan to explore other districts and simply spend your time wandering around the ‘Ichiban-gai’ underground shopping arcade at Tokyo Station, you could easily spend two days there. And don’t forget to visit the famous ‘Ramen Street"Let's have a ramen battle."
