Last weekend I went to Singapore for a super short trip, leaving on Friday morning and coming back on Sunday night, this is the third time I travelled to Singapore in just three days, we are a group of four, it only takes a few hours to fly from Hong Kong to Singapore, and I feel better and better about this place. This time I was arranged to stay at the Village Hotel Changi, built in 1985, last renovated in 2004, 8 floors high, 380 rooms. There is a golf course at the back of the hotel and the swimming pool is located on the roof, the view is nice and the overlook is amazing. There is a market, a food shop and a 24-hour convenience store at the corner, so you can get anything you need. However, if you want to go to the city centre, you will need to pay a bit more. The hotel is located near Changi Airport, it takes only 15 minutes by taxi to reach the hotel. There is also a minibus that runs every hour from 7am onwards.
We chose to take a taxi to get to the hotel because we didn't have much time and we wanted to make it quicker. As soon as I arrived at the lobby of Village Hotel Changi, I could feel the friendliness and warmth of Singaporeans, and I was impressed by the thoughtfulness of Singaporeans from the very first impression I got. Especially the receptionist and the assistant manager of the hotel, as soon as I enquired about the room, they explained everything to me in detail, no matter the arrangement of the room, the schedule of the airport shuttle bus, the location of the breakfast, as well as the delivery of newspapers and laundry service every morning, they all explained clearly.
I was arranged to stay on the 6th floor of the hotel, which is a separate floor for business residents, and I was given a special security card for access to the lift, which is not accessible to residents of other floors, thus providing a particularly quiet environment for business people on this floor.
After passing through a corridor, I reached my room, which is an intermediate room in Village Hotel Changi. The Royal Suite is an intermediate room with a King Size bed and a work desk. The design of the room and the furniture looks a bit like home, with wooden furniture and soft colours, it has a back-to-nature atmosphere, which is exactly the line of the Village Hotel Changi.
The bed is medium-firm and comfortable. I used to have a lot of bone pains from playing basketball, so I need a mattress for that. 🙂 The pre-set air-conditioning temperature in the room is also quite comfortable, I've tested it again and it's fine if you fine-tune it yourself.
There are power plugs at the working desk, and like Hong Kong, Singapore uses 220 V British plugs, with an RJ45 plug for broadband internet access. What's more, there is also a wireless broadband service available in the room, which can be easily set up by filling in a password. One-day, three-day and seven-day broadband Internet access is available at a very low cost.
There is a telephone between the bedside and the work desk, which can be used to make calls to both local and overseas Singapore, but of course there is a charge. In addition, the hotel has a morning call service, just tell the front desk attendant the time and you are good to go. Another thing I would like to praise is that the rooms are provided with an extra power outlet, which is a rare feature in hotels, and is often not enough.
There is a colourful LED TV set in front of the king-size bed, with local Singaporean TV programmes plus international music such as TVB8, which is pretty much the same thing that is broadcasted in hotels in every country you travel to.

In the bathroom, you can see the position of the king-size bed through the glass, in fact, the original purpose of the glass is to be able to bathe on the one hand and watch TV on the other.

The bathrooms are fully stocked with toiletries, basic shower gel and shampoo are of course provided, while toothbrushes, toothpaste and rinse, which are not always available, are also taken care of at Village Hotel Changi.

Outside the bathroom, there is a wardrobe at the entrance of the main entrance, which has an ironing iron and ironing board to make it easier for you to iron your own clothes. If you don't have time to do it automatically, or if you need help to wash your clothes, the Village Hotel Changi provides a free laundry service, with two pieces of ordinary, standard clothes per day. If you send them to the laundry department today, they will be ready to be washed in the morning, which is very efficient.

Underneath the wardrobe, there is a safe where you can store your passport and cash safely, a very important facility.

Comments.
Overall, the rooms at Village Hotel Changi are clean and tidy, and although refurbished a few years ago, the decor is still very well maintained. The facilities are very well equipped, better than many higher class hotels, probably due to the positioning of focusing on business travel and resort style travel, at this price, it is really value for money.
