[Hong Kong Cuisine] ‘Ho Cheong Dai Ap’ at MTR Wan Chai Station: One of Hong Kong’s oldest pawnshops

 Built over 100 years ago, Ho Cheong Pawnshop is one of Hong Kong’s oldest pawnshops. It is now listed as a Grade II historic building in Hong Kong and has become one of the district’s landmarks due to the sign bearing the character for ‘pawnshop’ hanging on its façade. In 2007, the government spent over ten million on the revitalisation and renovation of Ho Cheong Pawnshop, whilst retaining the four interconnected four-storey buildings featuring Guangzhou-style terraces. It has been leased by The Pawn, a contemporary British restaurant, and has been transformed into a fine-dining establishment; however, the rooftop remains a private space open to the public. Members of the public are welcome to visit during opening hours, but please refrain from eating or drinking within this area. The pawnshop has since relocated to the building next door. Sitting on the nostalgic terrace enjoying lunch, listening to the clanging of the trams and watching the street bustle with people, is truly a delightful experience.
