The ‘Anime and Manga Base’ was formerly known as the ‘Green House’, a Grade II listed building constructed in a ‘back-to-back’ style prior to the war. As the building’s exterior walls were once painted green, it came to be known as the ‘Green House’. Following a government-led regeneration project involving refurbishment and restoration, it was converted into the ‘Anime and Manga Base’ to promote the development of the local anime and manga industry. Although the building’s exterior has been designed in a black-and-white theme reminiscent of anime and manga, the interior remains entirely unchanged, preserving every brick and tile and retaining its distinctive Western-style windows., railings and terraces. Many anime and manga characters created by Hong Kongers can be found here, such as McDull, Old Master Q, Cowboy and others—each of these cartoon characters has accompanied Hong Kong people as they grew up, bringing children a fun and happy childhood.
