【Taichung Tourism. Taiwan] 0K Taiwan Bicycle Carnival in Taichung

During our trip to Taichung two weeks ago, we were honoured to be invited by the Taichung City Government and the Taiwan Tourism Bureau to participate in the "2016 Taiwan Bike Festival" organised by them. Bicycle is what we Hong Kong people used to call bicycle.


Why did the Taiwan Tourism Bureau organise this cycling event in Taichung? And not in Taipei? Taichung City is the starting point of the Taiwan Bicycle Festival, the centre of the future Taiwan Bicycle Trail, and the centre of Taiwan's bicycle industry, with world-renowned brands such as Giant, Adria, and Speedway among them. This year's "2016 Taiwan Bike Festival" is divided into four main themes, and we are participating in one of them, "0K Taiwan - Touring Taichung". You may ask, what does 0K stand for? The theme of the festival, 0K, actually means zero kilometre, starting from zero, and the organisers hope that people who like cycling, regardless of nationality, will gather in Taichung as a starting point in the future, and extend the spirit of 0K to the whole of Taichung.

As the first event of 0K Taiwan, there were more than 3,000 cyclists in total, among which 300 cyclists each from Changhua, Nantou and Miaoli, in addition to the cycling team from Taichung, and the routes from four counties and cities, namely Zhonghua, Changhua, Nantou and Miaoli, set out together, from the "Battle of Zhongtou 136" with the longest length of 42Km to the "Hualu Light Cycling Taichung Parent and Child Route" with a length of 15Km which is suitable for families. This is a large-scale event in Taichung City, just like a marathon in Hong Kong.

On the day of the race, it was a beautiful day and we started to tour Taichung early in the morning with the "International Media Group" team until the final stop at the Taichung Intercontinental Baseball Stadium, the scenery along the way is definitely not to be missed.

After joining this cycling activity, I realised that apart from the countless delicacies in Taiwan, there are also cycling activities like this. It is indeed very rare to have a cycling section of several dozens of kilometres, where you can feel the fun of cycling while enjoying the nature of Taichung City, which is a very comfortable experience.

This time, I participated in the event, with the bike to participate in the race at the same time, before touring Taichung, the authorities were very considerate to pre-arrange a visit to the local premier Jiant Giant Taichung flagship shop for all the media, among which I was attracted to one of the Momentum series, the tyres are rough for cross-country, highway, and snow, but the pedaling is actually quite easy, and I was very impressed. The equivalent price is about 3-4 thousand Hong Kong dollars, so I was really impressed.

In addition to ordinary bicycles, we also went to a bicycle research institute, in which the three bikes developed for use by the disabled, although the main upper body muscles for propulsion, but the body is added to the electrical auxiliary propulsion, relatively reduce the physical burden required to walk.
