A neighbourhood shop in North Point, conveniently located right next to the MTR station. It specialises in various cuts of beef, including beef brisket, tender brisket, rib brisket, shredded brisket, offal, tripe, beef tendon, beef tongue, oxtail… and so on. The beef brisket is fresh and of high quality, with the owner, Mr Li, personally visiting several butchers early every morning to select and source the meat. The stock is simmered from free-range chicken, pork bones and beef bones, and the beef brisket is prepared in several ways – in clear broth, curry or tomato-based soup.
If you’d like to try all the different cuts of beef, why not order a bowl of ‘Five-Treasure Soup Noodles’? It features a variety of beef cuts, including brisket, tendon, tongue, tripe and tail.
My personal favourite is their ‘Tomato Soup with Beef Brisket Noodles’, The tomato broth is simmered daily using twenty jin of fresh tomatoes; it’s tangy and slightly sour, and absolutely delicious. The beef brisket is tender and melt-in-the-mouth—the quality is exceptional. What’s more, customers can customise their dish to their liking by adding beef, pork liver, wonton and other toppings.
Another snack on the menu is ‘Huadiao Wine and Goji Berry Marinated Chicken Wings’, which is infused with the aroma of Huadiao wine and the flavour of goji berries; unfortunately, the meat isn’t particularly tender. Another hugely popular snack is radish marinated in pork belly sauce; many customers order a portion of this. The radish is well-seasoned and sweet, and the portion is generous. If you’re still looking for something more substantial, the mussel and anchovy fish balls are also well worth a try.
The authentic ‘Pakistani Curry Potato Trio Rice’ is the restaurant’s signature dish, featuring a combination of the house-speciality beef brisket, beef tendon and beef tongue. The Pakistani curry, simmered with dozens of spices, aromatic leaves and herbs, is fragrant, spicy and rich, prepared in the traditional manner.
Although the quality of the beef brisket doesn’t quite match that of renowned establishments such as Hua Jie, Qun Jie and Xin Xian, ‘Chang Xi’ stands out for its wide selection of beef cuts and cooking methods, making it a small eatery in the North Point area that is well worth a visit.
