A boat trip to the Geopark is a delightful outing, but it’s not complete without good food—so be sure to enjoy a hearty lunch. The boat will dock at Kat O for over an hour at midday, giving you time to eat and wander about. For lunch, head to Yee Man Tea House—the only restaurant on Kat O Island—to savour the island’s unique seafood speciality. There are no other options, but Yimin Tea House certainly doesn’t cut corners; whilst it may not be the finest cuisine on earth, it is certainly on a par with restaurants in the city centre.
Each set menu features a generous selection of dishes, including fresh, springy blanched prawns; savoury steamed dried baby bucket fish—perfect for mopping up the rice; steamed seafood; giant secret-recipe cuttlefish balls; ginger-infused poached chicken; spicy black bean sauce spare ribs, stir-fried pork slices with broccoli, wild Chinese mustard greens, bonito flake and peanut congee, and Si Miao white rice – all available as an all-you-can-eat buffet!
Secret-recipe cuttlefish balls – these enormous balls are a bit intimidating, but they are undoubtedly the star of the meal. Steamed Seafood – Making the most of living by the sea, even a simple bluefish reveals its natural freshness. Choosing bluefish was a wise decision; with few bones and plenty of meat, everyone can enjoy it. I relished every bite and didn’t leave a single scrap of meat behind. Pork Ribs in Black Bean Sauce – The ribs were fresh once again; the lean meat was full of flavour with just a touch of fat. Topped with a generous layer of black bean sauce and chilli strips, perhaps it was my cheerful mood, but the flavour was simply superb.
