Yilan Gourmet Travel. Taiwan] "Fairytale Village Organic Holiday Farm" Make the best three-star scallion pancakes in the universe, play on the slides in the most popular soup kitchen castle rooms.

Yilan has always been famous for its abundant rainfall, which is precisely the reason why it is able to produce "Yilan three-star spring onions", the most delicious in the universe. It was raining that day, but at around 5pm, we finally arrived at the "Fairytale Village Ecological Holiday Farm" that I had been looking forward to, and were warmly welcomed by the owner, Ms Wu Lizhu.

"Make your own scallion pancakes.

Before dinner, the first activity we had to do was the "Samsung Scallion Pancake DIY" activity, which is the reason why I was really looking forward to it. Ms Ng's second daughter, Michelle, led us to her family's three-star onion field to pluck the three-star onions, and then taught us how to roll the dough and plate it into a cake that looked like a poo. We all added a lot of spring onion for free, and of course, scallion pancakes need to be "popped" to make them tasty!

Signature Organic Mulberry Seafood Hot Pot

For dinner, I had the farm's signature dish, "Organic Mulberry Seafood Pot" and "Three Star Scallion Pancake" which I just made myself. After frying, the scallion pancake was golden in colour and crispy in texture. Every bite was filled with sweet samsung scallion, full of oil aroma and flavourful black pepper, I was very satisfied with my work!

The Fountain Hot Pot is served with a choice of pork, beef and seabass, while other side dishes include seasonal vegetables, fresh prawns and "Five Elements Fish Balls", which are very rich. A special mention must go to the very tasty "Five Elements Fish Balls", which are made from the owner's freshly battered fish paste from Nam Fong O. The batter is mixed with five kinds of vegetables: red roselle, yellow pumpkin, green celery, black mulberry, and white sunflower seeds!

This pot has been certified by many organic ageless meals and gourmet restaurants. The reason why it is named Mulberry Pot is that the soup is made from mulberry roots and leaves, together with woodchucks, big bones and pumpkins, etc. The soup is simmered for eight hours, and is low in oil, salt and sugar, which makes it nutritious and healthy, and the flavour is also very sweet. There is also a famous handmade ramen made from dried and ground fresh mulberry leaves, which is eaten with a special mulberry noodle dipping sauce.
During the dinner, the hospitable owner even invited us to drink her organic flower and fruit teas, including Luo Shen Hua tea, Sang Mo tea and vanilla tea, each of which is very good.

"Children's favourite castle suite

After dinner we all went back to our respective rooms. There are three types of rooms at the Fairytale Village: the European-inspired Honkan Suite, the detached log cabins, and the Soup House Castle Rooms, which were newly constructed in 2017 next to the rice paddies.

If you come with children, we highly recommend staying at the three-storey Soup Kitchen Castle. The pink colour of the whole building is attractive enough, and each room has a different cartoon theme, and you can have a bath, and the facilities are new enough, some even have slides, so the kids in the group had a full night's play!

A Visit to the Organic Farm

The next morning, after a breakfast of Taiwanese dishes and congee, we headed to their organic farm. It turns out that all the fruits and vegetables we have been eating in the Fairytale Village are grown here, so it's no wonder I found it so fresh and tasty! We also got a glimpse of the sweet and sour "Silky Mulberry", which looks a bit like a caterpillar.

In fact, in Fairytale Village, apart from homemade scallion pancakes, there are also different DIY farm experiences in different seasons. We participated in the rice sieving and milling experience, and then brought home a whole bag of organic rice. In winter, there are also activities such as picking cold plums to make plum wine. It's the perfect place for a family to come for such an interesting stay.
