First of all, I\u2019d like to apologise to my friends in PR and my colleagues at Est\u00e9e Lauder for the delay in this post; I\u2019ve really got a mountain of articles to write, so I hope you\u2019ll bear with me.<\/ins><\/ins><\/ins><\/ins><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Late last month, I attended my first beauty blogger meet-up. Although a friend had asked me half a year ago if I was interested in something like this, I\u2019d always turned them down a few times, feeling a bit shy and self-conscious. (Oh my God! What on earth is a grown man afraid of!?) \u2193<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This time it\u2019s a bit different<\/a>Since Estee Lauder is a company that promotes perfumes, and I myself am in the habit of wearing perfume, that\u2019s where my interest in attending came from, What\u2019s more, this gathering offered another appealing angle for a homebody like me to get out and have a bit of fun: they had an iPhone app\u2014never before released to the public\u2014designed to help customers choose the right perfume, and they gave a handful of us bloggers a sneak preview to see what it was all about. That certainly piqued my curiosity \u2193<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As for what\u2019s so fun about software, or what it\u2019s like to tinker with it, I won\u2019t go into that here. In any case, I\u2019m fundamentally opposed to being labelled a \u201cgeek\u201d, so I\u2019ll leave it to my fellow tech bloggers to explain it\u2014so I can finally shake off that \u2018honorific\u2019 title of \u2018geek\u2019 \u2193<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But to be honest, this Ascent iPhone app really is spot on. Although a developer friend has explained why it\u2019s so accurate, for me as a user, \u201caccurate\u201c is all that matters. Thinking back to the Blogger event, Ascent accurately pinpointed my preference for the scent of this perfume, which was truly incredible to me, as this Tommy Hilfiger Cologne is the only fragrance I\u2019ve used consistently over the last few years \u2193<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But what deserves even more praise are the lovely ladies at Estee Lauder. When I mentioned that Tommy was my usual choice and that I was hoping to find another suitable fragrance, they were kind enough to suggest a similar scent\u2014DKNY Men\u2014for me to try \u2193<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To be honest, I fell in love with the scent of DKNY Men the moment I tried it! It really made me realise that people are always more considerate than machines.<\/ins><\/ins><\/ins><\/ins><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Finally, I\u2019d like to offer some heartfelt advice to my friends: don\u2019t spend all day glued to your phones, cameras and computers, tending virtual fields, growing virtual crops or building virtual castles. The world is a vast place, and people are far more interesting than machines. Get to know the friends around you, so you can better distinguish right from wrong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you ever see me posting on Weibo from my mobile, it means I\u2019m communicating with other extraterrestrial beings. It\u2019s communication\u2014a genuine exchange\u2014and it\u2019s quite different from tilling the soil, growing vegetables or building castles, do you understand!?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
