\nLast month, we visited Taiwan for 10 days. We planned to visit several counties and cities, but of course, we landed in Taipei City on the first day. Our group took EVA Air from Hong Kong at 11am and flew to Taoyuan Airport before 1am. We didn't have to wait 5 minutes for our luggage to arrive, EVA's service is always stable and fast, I applaud it. I grabbed my luggage and immediately ran to the Taipei City Hotel, where I was staying tonight, with the chartered car that I had booked. The Taipei City Hotel is located in the vicinity of Dadaocheng. Anyone who loves old Taipei will have heard of the Dadaocheng area, which is filled with many old houses. The nearby Dihua Street is also a must-visit place for local Taipei residents to do Lunar New Year shopping. In recent years, several coffee shops have opened at the end of Dihua Street, gathering a group of young travellers who love to stroll around old houses and drink coffee. On the first day of our trip to Taiwan last month, we chose to stay at the Taipei City Hotel in the Dadaocheng area, so that we could enjoy our time as young people in the neighbourhood.

\nLocated in Da Dao Cheng, the Taipei City Hotel is one of Taiwan's newest modern tourist hotels. The three-storey classical baroque building on the ground floor, completed in 1929, is a preserved monument from the former mansion of Fenghuang Yeh Jin-tu, while the fourteen-storey building on the ground floor is a brand new high-rise constructed of grey granite stone. The building was one of the most magnificent buildings in the area at that time. Unfortunately, due to Yeh's early death and the emigration of his children and grandchildren, the old mansion fell into disrepair and became a gathering place for travellers, but fortunately, a construction company took over the reconstruction and with the help of the government, the building was preserved in its original state, making it the first historical building in Taiwan to have been successfully reconstructed and revitalised, and it is also the only monumental hotel in the whole of Taiwan.<\/p>\n

The three basement floors of the Taipei City Hotel are mainly made of red bricks and tiles with stone-washed structures. The delicate and elegant cement sculptures of flowers and plants and the Ionic columns are typical of the Baroque style, and together with the newly built floors, the combination of ancient and new elements impacts on each other without being out of place, but instead is very distinctive and imposing.<\/p>\n

The lobby of the Taipei City Hotel is bright and spacious, and the lifts are ornate, gilded and modern, with stylish and funky sheep statues and art displays throughout. The large LED TV screen behind the reception is very eye-catching, broadcasting information about the hotel and the weather forecast.

\nThe wall next to the small sofa in the lounge area is decorated with the historical development of Dadaocheng in the past, and the dark-coloured furniture inlaid with gold patterns is decorated with a touch of vintage luxury. There is also a small business centre, and computers and free broadband internet access are available in the hotel and guest rooms.<\/p>\n

\n\"\" The Taipei City Hotel has over 170 rooms, with a variety of room types, such as exquisite single rooms, double rooms and the rare deluxe family room with three beds. The hotel is classically elegant, but the rooms are modern, clean, bright, upscale and spacious, with a small living room next to two comfortable beds, a coffee table, a hair dresser and two chairs.<\/p>\n

There are bathrobes, slippers, kettle, hairdryer, shoeshine, safe, toiletries, etc. Besides instant coffee and my favourite Tianren Oolong tea bags, the 50-inch or above LCD TV is equipped with satellite channels, and there are three-hole adapter sockets and USB plugs on the wall, which is very considerate.<\/p>\n

The bathrooms are clean and very spacious, featuring state-of-the-art multi-functional cure-free toilets and wet\/dry separation facilities for showering or soaking, so that tired guests can relax and enjoy their baths.<\/p>\n

\nThere are many ways to get to the Taipei City Hotel. As the hotel is located on the main road, Chongqing North-South Road, it only takes about ten to fifteen minutes by taxi from Taipei Main Station. There is also a three-storey car park on the ground floor of the hotel, which is convenient for those travelling by car. The nearest MRT station is Xianglian Station or Daqiaotou Station, which is a 10-minute walk from the hotel. In addition, the hotel also provides airport shuttle service, which takes about 50 minutes to travel to and from Taoyuan Airport and 25 minutes to Songshan Airport.

\nI think the Star Bucks coffee shop next to the Taipei City Hotel is probably the most popular among Hong Kong people. There is also a large supermarket across the street from the hotel, and it is close to a number of attractions; it is only a three-minute walk to the Dihua Shopping District, a five-minute walk to Dadaocheng Pier and Ningxia Night Market, and very convenient to the Xiahai City God Temple and other snack shops, cultural and creative shops, and so on.<\/p>\n
